Welcome to The Robotics Club
Robotics Club for Youngsters - Jr. First Lego League (1st-3rd grade)
What is Jr. First Lego League?
"Jr. FLL captures young children’s inherent curiosity and directs it toward discovering the wonders of science and technology. This program features a real-world scientific concept to be explored through research, teamwork, construction, and imagination. Teams use LEGO®bricks to guild a model that moves and develop a Show-Me Poster to illustrate their journey.
Children ages 6 to 9 get to:
- Design and build a challenge-related model using LEGO components.
- Create a Show-Me poster and practice presentation skills.
- Explore challenges facing today’s scientists.
- Discover real-world math and science.
- Begin developing teamwork skills." - Jr.FLL website
Meetings:
Any student in 1st through 3rd grade can join. Each club meets once a week for 1.5 hours.
Robotics Club for 1st-3rd graders (section G)
meets on Thursday 3:30-5:00
Robotics Club for 1st-3rd graders (section H)
meets on Saturday 9:30-11:00
Each year, the Jr. Lego League sets a challenge that relates to an important real world issue. The 2013-2014 challenge is "Disaster Blaster" where children explore natural disasters and how we prepare, respond and recover from them.
The club has a coach who will guide the club members as they become familiar with the Challenge, conduct research, build Lego models and create their Show Me Poster. The coach also registers the club members for optional state events where members can showcase their Lego model and Show Me Poster. Parents are responsible for all transportation to and from state events.
Each section of the Robotics Club is limited to 20 members. There are three sessions (session 1 is September through November, session 2 is December through February and session 3 is March to May). Each session meets ten times for 1.5 hours. Students can join for one or more sessions. The club fee includes coach supervision and guidance during club meetings, access to computers and Lego kits** during club meetings for research and building the motorized Lego models, poster materials and the registration fee with Jr.FLL.
**Club members will not be able to take Lego kits home.
