Welcome to The Science & Invention Club

The Ivy Clubhouse has partnered with Club Invention to bring STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities to children in the Science& Invention Club. In addition, students in the Science & Invention Club also participate in the Students Invention Program (S.I.T.E.) sponsored by NJ's Educational Information and Resource Center.

What is Club Invention?

The Club Invention program was developed by educators in partnership with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is taught by Ivy Clubhouse teachers.

Session 1:

Castles, Catapults, and Coats of Arms™

Explore the lifestyles of the Middle Ages!

  • Design a drawbridge that raises and lowers!
  • Construct coats of arms, shields, and jewelry!
  • Craft a sturdy catapult to defend your fortress!
  • Sculpt clay boats that carry precious cargo!

Session 2:

Bolder Builders™

Disaster has struck! Help design and rebuild the town of Unlucky!

  • Build and test all kinds of bridges!
  • Shake, rattle, and roll your building in an earthquake simulation!
  • Design spider webs and bird nests!
  • Take part in extreme tent making and brave the
    elements!

Session 3:

E.Z. Science™

Conduct experiments to help a scatterbrained magazine editor!

  • Produce a chemical reaction that blows up
    a balloon!
  • Tie yourself in knots and find your way out!
  • Protect eggs from cracking when they fall!
  • Design and print a new magazine cover!

 

Students Invention Program

SITE challenges K-12 students to invent solutions to self-identified problems while working under the guidance of a teacher.  This program stresses the development of a wide variety of problem solving skills and encourages students to apply these skills to life situations.  Students develop inventions in the local school and enter a local competition where winning inventions are selected.  These winning invention are invited to compete at a Regional Competition where all local winning inventions are exhibited. 

Who Can Join the Science & Invention Club?

Any student in 1st through 2nd grades can join. Each section of the Science & Invention Club is limited to 20 members.

 

When Does the Science & Invention Meet?

This club meets once a week for 1.5 hours.


Science & Invention Club (section A) for 1st-2nd graders

meets on Wednesday 3:30-5:00


Science & Invention Club (section B) for 1st-2nd graders

meets on Wednesday 5:00-6:30


There are three sessions (session 1 is September through November, session 2 is December through February and session 3 is March to May). Each session meets ten times for 1.5 hours. Students can join for one or more sessions.  The club fee includes coach instruction and coordination and all materials and registration fees with Camp Invention and Educational Information and Resource Center.
