Improvisational Comedy (new class introduced 2/24/2014)
Through theater games, students will learn to unleash their flow of creative ideas and emotional energy and learn to push themselves to take risks and be spontaneous, all in a safe and supportive environment. We will begin with skill building exercises -- developing trust in yourself and scene partner, listening and responding, focus and concentration and positive collaboration. We will then move onto techniques for creating comic characters and begin building comic situations and scenes. Students will learn to develop the “who, what, where, when,” say “yes” to their scene partner, be specific in their acting choices, experience their characters’ changes to mix things up and make it funny, take acting choices to a comic extreme, and overall perform with confidence, enthusiasm while having lots of fun. |

Singing and Song-Writing
Write an original song capturing your dreams and experiences. Students will learn how to structure songs, craft lyrics, manipulate melody, rhythm and harmony and merge words with music. Students in past classes have gone on to copyright the songs they created in this class. Also, students will be able to train the voice through a combination of relaxation, breathing and vocal exercises offered in a fun, supportive and caring environment. The teacher will coach the student in developing his or her individual sound. The target by the end of the class is for the student to feel confident and loving singing at least one new song. This class accommodates the beginning singer, as well as anyone looking to expand to the next level. |
